Q.
Can I use showcontrolpro with timecode?
A.
While scp was originally intended as a live/real-time program, since
the implementation of the MIDI-in remote control features in v.3 and
up, it is possible to use scp tied to timecode!
Simply
use your favourite MIDI sequencer program (eg Cubase SX, Logic etc)
routed to the Apple IAC bus. (Make sure that the IAC bus is active
in Audio MIDI setup, and that you have named a bus, and you have that
bus selected in your sequencer program for output.) Then write MIDI
notes into your program that correspond to the scp parameters that
you want to run to timecode (the velocity must be the same as well!).
Showcontrolpro will now 'chase' your sequencer program. If you want
to use a tape machine, set your sequencer program to read SMPTE or
MTC (Tape machine as 'master', sequencer program as 'slave'. In this
case everything is now controlled from the tape machine.
You
can also use MMC (MIDI machine control) in your sequencer program
to control the tape machine, while still allowing your sequencer program
(and therefore scp) to 'lock' to SMPTE or MTC.
Q.
Why does showcontrolpro not handle MIDI show control commands (MSC)?
A.
As of version 3.1(OSX) [coming soon!], scp will handle show control
commands; the reason this feature was not included in the original
versions was a lack of faith on behalf of the author in MIDI sysex
commands when applied to live audio. MSC has now been added in v3.1
to extend the functionality of scp for theatre and theme park environments.
Q.
My MIDI channel assignments now run from 0 up, and I've lost my device
names!
A.
Your preferences file has somehow got corrupted; drag it to trash,
and then empty, and relaunch.
Q.
My connected devices do not seem to be responding as they should.
A.
Make sure that you don't have any of your devices set to the same
MIDI channel in the 'setup' window - this is the usual cause of the
problem!
Q.
I now get a different challenge every time I launch scp, whereas before
I got the same challenge every time. What do I do?
A.
One of 2 things. Either:
